A Dying Game?
So for the last year or so, you can never seem to go onto the forum without seeing 2-3 posts stating that the game is dead and blue frog gaming doesn't give a crap. I think all of us are tired of hearing it! It really reminds me of all the Earth Apocalypse that have never happened. It's 2013 and the world is still here, just like NPCs are here to stay and People are still playing. Stop whining and deal with what the game brings you.
A new reason of why the game is dying was surfaced recently by BFG's own Matt. Matt stated...
"Partly because instead of finding a community willing to welcome them in to the game, inviting them to an alliance, and being friendly on the forum, they find a group of players that want to immediately smash their entire fleet, tell them not to bother rebuilding because this game is dead and sucks, and chiding them when they come to the forum to ask for help from existing players."
Sure, some of us don't like the guy, but this is something i think many of use will agree with. When was the last time somebody actually helped somebody start off? Instead, we find people attacking with ridiculous amounts of ships to destroy a few Artemis and gain about 200k in resources. Build these new guys up, and when you attack, you have the opportunity to gain 50x the resources and ships he had as a noob. Teach them how to play and now you have some nice competition on your hands. The Statement "It's a war game" is getting real old. Is it a war if someone brings a nuke to destroy a lemon-aid stand? That's basically what you guys are doing. Maybe create a topic in the forum about what you like about the game and not what you hate. Show love for the game you play, or don't play at all.

Suspended for over 4 months
Multi-accounting, Pushing, even spamming are all crimes punishable by bans of varying time lengths. These time lengths vary, from a simple warning to a suspension lasting up to 7 days. So why are players suspended for four months?
If you live in Galaxy 7, around the 400's region (Original), you know that the galaxy is plagued with inactive suspended people. These people have been suspended since November and they are still in suspension. Why are they not yet attackable? Blue Frog Gaming's bad design for suspending players.
Players upon suspension cannot access their account via the game website for a certain limit. Instead, when you log in, it gives you a time and a date which your suspension ends. Because a player may have been suspended at an inconvenient time relative to their time zone, Blue Frog waits until the first time you log on to your account after your suspension is expired. At this point, you no longer show (s) and as long as you're not in diplomacy or vacation mode, you may be attacked. But what about the people who never re-access their account after a suspension? They stay in their un-attackable state of suspension until one day they log onto their account once more. No matter how long they stay innactive, they will never be attackable, slots are covered, and they provide an ugly sight when hunting.
These scum should be able to be attacked by anyone. They cheated and now the active people suffer staring at possible targets that they will never be able to hit. Blue Frog should make it so that once a player reaches 7 days of inactivity they lose their (s) status and become just another innactive player. It's not fair that playersare getting attacked because they are inactive for 7 days, when the cheating scum of Starfleet Commander get an everlasting "grace" period. -Unownreality

matt hirschfelt
Meet Matt Hirschfelt, Community manager for Blue Frog Gaming. Mat is in charge of regulating the forums, twitter, and Facebook accounts for Starfleet Commander. Matt is a graduate of the University of Akron school of Law where he earned his Doctor of Law degree. I asked Matt to join me for SFC's first news interview.
Managing Forums, dealing with people, doesn't seem like the greatest job at a video game company. Matt says he loves it. "In general, I enjoy interacting with our users. Doesn't matter if that is the forum, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, or support, so long as I'm meeting users, learning what they like and dislike about our games, and passing that feedback through to the rest of our team. We have a very diverse user group with a bunch of unique personalities. They're all great to work with in their own way." People say that BFG doesn't care about their players and next thing you see is Matt's post of a giant list of all the user generated ideas that were put into place. To me, it seems like the best comeback ever seen on the forums, as it usually shuts up the person. To Matt, "I don't intend any message to be a 'comeback' or 'poking back' at anyone. I'm just relaying information from our team to the users, facilitating conversation between users, and hopefully injecting a little humor from time to time" When asked Matt enjoys working with us users, and sometimes we show him a little disrespect. We give him names such as "The hammer" so how does Matt deal with them? "I don't really pay much attention to [the nicknames]."
Matt also is the creator of the very popular Open Parser for all universes. Open parser was the replacement for the old Parser BAM! after the server had been discontinued. Matt stepped in and created his own version of BAM!. "There was a need for the [Parser] and I had some spare time available. It was mostly a learning experience for me."
Thank you Matt for everything that you have done for us players of Starfleet Commanders. Although we give you some trouble from time to time, we all appreciate all the hard work you put in to make our gaming experience the best it can be. Matt will always be there to help any of us who needs it. "I hope you're enjoying our games and don't hesitate to contact me if you are experience any problems or have concerns." Thank you very much Matt! we appreciate all the hard work! -Unownreality

Galactic war???
Today on the official SFC forum's, Jared1701 and his alliance Dark Sphere Have proposed that every alliance go to war with each other in original universe.
"Me and [Dark Sphere] have been discussing this and we want other gamers opinion. This is a war game, we're meant to fight and not be hippies making love and not war (there are a few out there). What would you guys say to a Uni1 Galactic war, all alliances involved! I am saying no one has sides every alliance for them selves and everyone at war with everyone?"-Jared1701
Following the post, an hour later the Dark Sphere had declared war with over 100 alliances. Although this is in fact a war game, starfleet commander is indeed a strategy game. Going into war with one alliance usually isn't considered a fast and easy process. Time will tell what will happen to the Dark Sphere alliance. This is Dark Sphere's chance to make their mark upon the universe, with failure causing a likely collapse of the alliance and success bringing them fame across the universe! Stay tuned for more updates on the situation as they become available.

Alliance ShowcASe: rigellian compact
Before we introduce the Rigellian Compact, I thought i'd take some time to tell you about the segment "Alliance Showcase". Every Thursday, one alliance will be chosen and a snapshot of the alliance's history and current status. Alliance Showcases are not recruitment drives, and are instead, a way of seeing how different alliances are unique. I thought it would be appropriate to start off with my alliance.
The Rigellian Compact was created a few months after the games creation on December 12, 2009 by Citi in the Original universe. Citi lead the compact for about 6 months until our own Tal Khoraash took over leadership until this day.
The Rigellian Compact (RgC for short) is semi-famous for its pro-longed war with KBF and the strange character that is Boris Alden. The war was fought primarily in the the 30's and 40's galaxies with some battles also happening in the 60's. Boris Alden was soon suspended and reset for cheating and the battle was brought to Galaxy 79. Soon after the reset, RgC had moved in to the surrounding systems and set up for what would become a very long stalemate. Occasionally Boris would hit an RgC player, but soon after another small hit, this time on Boris' planet. The war was still going strong in the 30's but with no surrender in sight, the war would continue. The compression hit and Boris had moved his planets to G10 where he would toggle (d) and die. The war was neither a win or loss for RgC. The new war rules cancelled every war in the game and the alliances would not request a new one.
Another battle for RgC was the battle of Gary Byrne, a very strong player. Gary Byrne harassed and killed many fleets in his time. Pre-compression C-1 (Gary's alliance) and RgC remained in an unofficial war in galaxy 63. The compression came upon and Gary had placed one of his main world's right in the middle of the RgC stronghold in G32. He would destroy many fleets of both RgC and Grey Wolf affiliation. His undoing would come upon him after Oryyan of Evil destroyed his entire fleet. This was the chance for the RgC to strike and all of his planets were soon being raided and attacked daily. After about a week of being attacked, Gary Byrne had toggled (d) where he remains to this day.
Recently, RgC held 2 parties open to all players in the Universe. The first was the Autumn Bash in early October and a 3 year anniversary party in December. Parties were organized by the members of RgC led by the morale officer in charge of all things fun Unownreality (yes me). RgC is now most famous among a few alliances for their DSP competitions in which players would compete in teams to score as many DSP as they can in a limited time. The alliance TIME and time now host spin-offs of these games.
Although the Rigellian serve as home for 32 members currently and is ranked #37. Almost 1/2 of the members are from the pre-compression era. The Rigellian Compact is very warm to their members and is mostly a democratic alliance. Jericho, a long time member has stated what he loved about RgC. "Strangely enough... I like it for alot of the same reasons other people like their alliances. Good folks! This was the first alliance I EVER JOINED. And although I wander about on various thrilling adventures, such as the Greywolves parties, I always return home to a hearty welcome and good friends...It helps that this alliance has kicked some serious backside over the years." Another long time member The Illuminated One goes on to say, " I liked the aspect of community and giving each member the space to grow as a player in their time."
The Rigellian Compact will continue to be a fun and well knit alliance. We all consider each other family and would trust many of our family with our whole fleet. -Unownreality

pilgrims and based on's war
If you pay attention to the forums, you would have seen numerous topics regarding the many disagreements between both alliances. But if you are like me and not part of all the battles past, what the hell happened?
Commander Imad, the current leader of Pilgrims went on a trip to based on to discuss a cease fire agreement. Soon after however, Based on had broken this agreement by probing and attacking members of the Pilgrims. An unofficial war ensued between the two alliances for quite some time, with both sides taking hits. An official war was declared by Pilgrims and Based on had accepted.
The rule both sides had agreed to was a membership freeze for both alliances. The Pilgrim alliance allege that based on had also broken this rule. Commander Imad states, "[During the war] over 30 members during the war , basically members we were probing or hit were dropped". An officer of Pilgrims scored a huge fleet kill, and another member had ninja'd an attacking Based on member. The war had finally ended with an attack by Imad while he was vacationing.
But what about all the trash talking? Baku specifically has talked a lot of trash to members of Pilgrims possibly over a temper tantrum from losing the war. Allegedly, Baku is in fact Kevin Rhodes after he was banned from the forum by Matt. Based on's current leader Admiral Lucifer Death, stated that, "[I] never saw it. Don't waste time at the forum." Another Talked about during the war was sat bashing, the process of attacking another's planet solely to destroy helios satellites for DSP during the war. Admiral Lucifer Death states, "Sat bashing is included in a war, reducing the opponents power source." Therefore, Lucifer and based on did not attack the helios for the DSP, but rather to cripple the enemy and stop mine production.
So a special congrats to the guys at Pilgrim's! A war well fought and won. Good job to Based on who also put up a great fight. Thank you to both leaders who helped in the investigation into the war. Lastly, as the winner of the war, The pilgrim's will have the last word.
"We pride ourselves in being a family and fighting hard as a team , rank don't mean much to us . Fighting successful wars and blowing stuff up and playing with honor is what being a Pilgrim is about . The Pilgrim name doesn't come from the old American settlers but from our original alliance name the Soldiers of God . Our mission and alliance motto was to spread the word , fleetsave or die . That is what it means to be a Pilgrim . We shall continue to grow and be a force no matter who tries to take us on . We fear no one , because at the end of the day we are a family and their is nothing stronger then
that." -Commander Imad

What does a war really mean?
"Prepare your fleets commanders, War has been declared!" War, a great feature of Starfleet which allows us to inflict more damage and bring fun, into alliance battles. But what can you do in a war that you wouldn't be able to do otherwise? What is the point of having a war? Hide your fleets and activate your neutrality markers as we explore what a war really means.
Wars are quite common in this strategy game we all play. Developing a war between alliances is something that may take time, or easy for an alliance to do. The war may just be for fun, where the two alliances are not enemies but instead, fight to bring the thrill of hunting and being hunted into daily game play. Alliances may also declare war because of hatred, whether it be a single player, or an alliance act usually at one another. Remember, just because you are in war mode with the alliances doesn't necessarily mean you'll be at war forever. War is primarily used to make a point, or for bragging rights. Don't feel disgraced that you lost. Its a learning moment and a chance to become a better player.
The major feature of war; No bashing rule applies. That's right, attack your enemy until he has no more fight or resources to even rebuild an Artemis. If he does, smash him again! No bashing allows you to hit your enemies continuously, as many times you would like. This can cripple the player if attacked more than 6 times on a single planet. Nuking the enemy is also quite popular in wars. Every alliance has turtles. Those turtles may be hiding a fleet behind all those defenses, so destroying them can lead an easy pathway to a player's fleets. You'll need the points to lead your alliance towards victory in the war.
Many people will be extra careful with their fleets, maybe activating diplomacy, or neutrality to avoid being wiped out. This happens nearly all the time. Don't be discouraged if your target becomes unattackable. Pretend your fishing and be patient, and wait for the right moment to cast your reel into the sea of targets.
War is a great feature which many of us has seen. It can bring a lot of fun into the game, or be a miserable time in diplomacy hiding your fleet. War is what you make it. Good luck to everyone and their wars!

Dark Sphere vs. Pilgrims
Dark Sphere called out to the Original universe for anyone who wishes to stand up to the challenge and go to war. The first alliance to do so was the Pilgrims of the Black Sun. The war would be a short term war, but by no means an uneventful war.
This would have been the second war fought between the Pilgrims and Dark Sphere with Dark Sphere taking home the first win. After the prospect of a rematch, the Pilgrims were more than happy to accept the war request. "We were very motivated to win this and avenge this loss ." says Commander Imad, leader of the Pilgrims. "That's why we jumped all over Dark Sphere universal war request , we were worried they wouldn't give us a rematch ." These wars where not for hatred or any disagreement. Instead the wars were to bring the thrill of war into the game. "These Wars where not done out of a grudge or malice, they had been accepted and fought knowing that everything was for friendly competition" says Dark Sphere's leader Jared1701.
The war was pretty quiet and was virtually based upon a single attack by Pilgrim's leader Commander Imad. Below is a copy of the attack report with all ships and coordinates deleted.
Date: 2013-03-10 04:26:10 UTC In the attack from Rolling Madness ??? on Moon ???:
The attacking side acquired 0 resources.
Commander Imad73 (ATTACKER) lost 364,690 RSP and gained 1,545,161 DSP. (more)
Gaida (DEFENDER) lost 1,545,161 RSP and gained 364,690 DSP. (more)
292,325,700 ore and 222,058,050 crystal are now floating at this location.
This epic battle marked the end of the war. The final score, Pilgrims: 1,870,821 Dark Sphere: 397,109.
Jared1701 stated, "As pilgrims had been the first to step up, we give Pilgrims much respect and thanks, for participating with us... Both Alliances are up for a tie breaker if it is so decided to happen." So congrats to the Pilgrims for their victory and a job well done to Dark Sphere as well. I know all us here at the paper are looking forward to a possible third war. As with every victory, the winning alliance will have the last word.
"It's tough to beat us because we are a tight group that play as a team... Spirit not rank makes a Pilgrim." -Commander Imad

darkfire galaxies?
A new game is currently in development by Blue Frog Gaming and is currently in an invite-only alpha testing. Is it going to just be another Starfleet spin off like Stardrift Empires was?
Unfortunately, i have not received an invite to the alpha-testing, so i can only go by what the forums say. The process for even applying for the alpha testing is horrendous. You create an account and to sign up, the site says fill out the form below. The "form" is a single question. What is your e-mail. No conformation e-mail is ever received if you apply, so you neer really know if they receive it. I am highly dissatisfied with this.
As for the game, It sounds like Starfleet commander, BUT a whole new Starfleet just like a sequel to your favorite game. Its a whole new group of ships, a whole new game play, and a whole new strategy period! So lets discuss a few things that game offers.
A mobile version of the website! Yes, finally blue frog come into the 21st century to make playing the game easier while away from the home. NPCs now attack people! So... if they have the technology, why hasn't it come into the game play in the current universes? I believe since this is the alpha version of the game, they are still working out the kinks in activity. Visual effects including animations! Finally get those artists at blue frog to work! Sure the graphics are nice in the current games, but drawing some simple images shouldn't take too long, especially seeing how they haven't been updated in years.
So in my view, Darkfire looks like fun to play and I can't wait for its release. I pray its not the same, but i like to believe it won't be. The game does not have a release date, but if you would like to attempt a beta key to play now, go to http://darkfiregalaxies.com/.
Unfortunately, i have not received an invite to the alpha-testing, so i can only go by what the forums say. The process for even applying for the alpha testing is horrendous. stalking your prey
Its a Jungle out there in the Starfleet universes. If you want to survive, you need to take out the competition. It sounds easier than it really is. Some targets will be the most easy attack ever. But, for those hardened vets, or even an intermediate player, you will need some hunting skills, but most importantly watching your prey.
1.Don't probe too often. 10 probes in an hour say something to the prey. "DANGER!" The prey will take action accordingly.
2. Take notes. I mean that literally. Have a notepad open on your computer and note when he is active, his offline periods, and try to figure out what timezone he is in. An attack launched in the middle of his night will be less likely to be seen and intercepted.
3. Don't send attacks you know you won't succeed. For every attack that you throw at your prey, he becomes aware of your daily hunting routine, and will plan his fleet to stay hidden. Save your energy for the prey's weakest times. If you see an asterisk (*) next to their name, wait 15 minutes and probe again. Be sure to check the players other planets as well for activity.
4. Be aware that stalking takes a while. Feel free to hit other targets as it may be weeks before your chance to take him out arrives.
5. Get caught attacking? Lay low for a while. Don't probe him unless they are shadow probes, don't attack him, and just wait. You usually have to wait the entire waiting period all over again.
6. When the chance is right, launch and pray that your prey stays asleep on his planet. Hit him hard and hit him good. Be sure to scan his planet or slow probe his moon. If you don't, the hunter will become the hunted.
So stalk your prey. Every player and I mean EVERY player screws up; Rank is nothing but a number. So get out there and start watching your next target! Happy hunting! >:)
