Conquest chaos
The new Conquest universe has just over 2000 players in a month's playing time. However, many problems have occurred in this short amount of time which has some players quitting the game and BFG slow to react to players issues.
Problem #1: Attack Lag
If you have played the Conquest universe, chances are you have seen attacks land and take up to 3 mins to process. This attack lag usually occurs on territory battles with NPCs, however, the infection has spread to a few PVP battles that has some players fuming. The problem has been known to exist for quite a while, but Developers at BFG are very slow to react.
"A patch was already put in place which dramatically reduced the number of times this occurs but we are still working on further correcting the issue." -Matt H
Problem #2: Fuel Display Error
In most alliances, players will share their territories with other players, some of which are at the other side of the galaxy. So they select a probe, keep the fuel cost at 5, and launch away. The only problem is that the 5 hydrogen cost turns into 7 when you attempt to launch. Four hydrogen jumps to six and three hydro jumps to five. So why is the fuel cost number lying to us!? Sure it is not a big issue, but it is one that surely needs to be addressed and fixed. BFG however, has not even started to look for a solution.
"The fuel display issues are likely the result of a rounding issue. It will be addressed, but as I previously informed (Unownreality), we have other more immediate issues we are working on in Starfleet." Matt H.
Problem #3: Newbie Protection
Most of us agree that the current newbie protection is not meant to handle the speeds of Conquest, but we have also made ourselves aware that BFG will not change it and have adapted accordingly. The only issue with this adaptation, is the fact that high ranking players are now de-ranking themselves to be able to hunt and play the game as it is intended. BFG seems to actually endorse this action during an interview with Matt H.
Unownreality: "I'm just here to get some information on the newbie protection in regards to players de-ranking themselves and your reaction to that."
Matt H: "That sounds like a perfectly viable way to play the game if they want to maximize their potential number of targets."
Problem #4: Failure to Appear
With the increasing speeds of players ships, the warning beacon is a savior to players to warn them of an incoming attack. The only issue is that it can take up to 5 minutes to appear after the attack has been launched. With some in-system attacks taking only 8 mins to land, this can leave a player with only 3 minutes to react to an attack if they are not checking the fleet screen. In the future, we can even see some attacks landing in less then 5 minutes leaving the player with no Icon warning. BFG fails to recognize this as a problem and has no intention to change the code.
Conquest promised far more game play in short periods of time, which it has produced. However with it has come new problems that players face daily. Players ask for some change, but BFG is slow to react, if they even decide to. Its a possibility that Conquest may soon become another victim of game failure...

Brace yourselves everyone! Blue Frog Gaming is releasing a new universe to the Starfleet Commander series! But what is so different and why the heck would they make another universe?
Blue Frog Gaming has said many times that they try to put out a new Starfleet universe every 6 months or so. According to Matt H, " New Universes give a chance for new players to play and compete on an even footing. Additionally, while there are a number of players that enjoy the end phase of the game, there are quite a few who enjoy the beginning building phase." Matt seems to be correct as many player do enjoy the building up phase rather than the seek and destroy part of the game. Players including myself love the possibility of starting over fresh and with a new start. Also as Matt explained, this will possibly bring new players to join the universes, as this time they will be playing on an even ground.
So what is different about the new universe? Don't tell me they just screwed around with the equations a little and "BAM! we got a game guys!" Well BFG has changed the game up more than the ways we all would expect. In this universe, they have taken out a few ships including the Apollo, Empusa, Space mines, and the Pallas. The Game will however include all other ships from the NOVA universe. The game will be running 3x faster than the original universe. This includes building, researching and ship speed. This will be a fast paced universe, so don't get left behind! If you want to play, get on the site on launch day!
Another change is territories. Now what the hell are territories? If you have had a chance to play Darkfire Galaxies, you may already have an idea. Territories grant you certain bonuses depending on what type of territories they are. BFG said that these bonuses will be listed on the espionage report. For those who play DFG, we know how buggy these territories are. I'm sure everyone has had the game crash or fleet get stuck on these many times. Matt H assured SFC News that this is not going to be an issue for the new game, "The Darkfire code and Starfleet code is entirely different. So comparing the two is really apples and oranges." Hopefully we have nothing to worry about!
One last note here, if you are the sneaky guy who wants to get to playing early, Matt has a warning for you, "... In the past we've suspended players who accessed early to keep them from prying." Be patient guys! This game sounds awesome so it should be worth the wait!

Subject: The Total Defeat of Killjoy 4155
This is the story of the destruction of Killjoy 4155, it takes place in Galaxy 18 of the Original Universe, in a time before parsers were generally available to the public, during the height of the Klingon Black Fleet/A New Hope war.
The Setup:
For months I (at the time I was known as Sa' (General) Sorakiba, "the Skyfang", Second in Command of the Klingon Black Fleet) had been smashing and demolishing the empires of all players in his galaxy who were not members of the KBF, and demanding their total conversion.
Through my efforts, and the efforts of those under me, I had converted nearly every single empire from system 100 through system 499 to members of the KBF... But not Killjoy 4155, for he was more powerful than I, with a much larger fleet. He resisted the many attempts to convert, and was rebellious to the authority of the KBF, and our claim of ownership over Galaxy 18. He probed and attacked anyone that he so desired, regardless of their alliance or affiliation. A true rogue element in my machinations.
The Beginning of the Story:
It begins in the dead of space, through the vast void, as a lone recon ship silently approaches the main planet of another empire… the one belonging to Killjoy 4155.
The owner of the ship… a man named Johnny Walker. As a diligent warrior of the KBF, Johnny had been helping to convert many of the other local empires into janissaries of the KBF. But one particular empire had been defiant, and mocking, to the last. It was this one... a powerful empire with a huge fleet who refused to yield to the KBF's advances... and constantly harassed our members.
As Johnny approached the main planet, he remained outside of the detection radius of the planet’s security forces, and launched a probe at the empire's main planet.
The probe is detected, and destroyed, but the planet’s security forces fail to respond to the threat. The probe gathers intelligence on the planet’s treasury department, security forces in orbit, planetary defenses, general infrastructure levels, and the current technological development of Killjoy's entire empire… Johnny reviews the report and discovers that Killjoy's entire armada is currently in space dock,.... so he takes advantage of the failed response, assuming that the empire's leader must not be present to issue orders to the security forces.
Johnny Walker amasses his entire fleet, and launches on the target, even with the understanding that he'll lose 75% of own fleet in the process. As he prepares for the attack, he contacts me, his commanding officer, Sa' Sorakiba, the Skyfang of the Klingon Black Fleet, and informs me of his intentions.
With my blessings, he carries out the attack, and utterly wipes out Killjoy's fleet...
My part:
Killjoy had been a thorn in my side for months. I was pleased to see this world burned… Then I had an idea... It was time to remove this threat from this galaxy permanently. I sent out several transmissions to all of those who had been scorned by this galactic scourge, and called for multiple attacks on his worlds… but the responses that I received was not very promising, as many of his victims didn't know the locations of his other colonies. So I did what I do best,... I went hunting... I flew from system to system, spanning several galaxies and finally located all of his hidden colonies... then I was able to enact my plan...
I dispensed his locations to all of his enemies, and worked with them to raze all of his planets to the ground, killing his people, burning his fields, and glassing entire planets with nukes, ... we left nothing.
My own fleet was one of the first to arrive and engage the planetary defenses of several of his planets… during the chaos of the battles, I slipped through the defenses, and landed on the planets… silently sneaking into the world’s treasury departments, I hacked into the empire’s global resource networks, and transferred one half of the planet’s total global funds into the cargo manifests of my own fleet's cargo ships, who then land at the automated transfer stations, and transfer the resources directly into their own cargo holds.
Only minutes after beginning the attack on his unsuspecting worlds, as he was apparently otherwise engaged, the attacks were already over…
On my way out of the final treasury department, I encountered a security officer...… I then left a small calling card addressed to Killjoy 4155, - the card is a small, shiny, black card, with fine, red velvet letters on it… the card reads:
Thank you for your generous donations to the KBF war fund,
Qapla' batlh je!,
~The Skyfang.

Rigellian compact spring fling party!
RgC is having another party and this time, all are invited to join! Everyone (even Boris) will be accepted into the party. The part begins on April 14, and will run until the 21st. In this week long event, there will be many games and prizes to be won, as well as enjoying time with members of all kinds. But what will be in the spring bash?
DSP Competition: RgC member Unownreality, has created a friendly competition where you try to rack up as many points as possible. There will be three people to a team, and you have to score as many points as you can in that week. This game was first introduced to the outside of RgC in the Autumn Bash. Members of TIME enjoyed the game so much, they introduced it to their alliance mates and currently run a spin off of the game. It's a very fun and competitive game that many players enjoy.
Quiz show: Do you know how many bumps a basketball has? How about when the vietnam war ended? Well our quiz show has a lot planned for this party! 4 topics per day over 7 days! There will always be subjects you will know, and be able to rack up the points! Even people in (d) mode love to play games on SFC! Here is your chance!
Guessing games: We have a few guessing games, but ill name two in particular. The first is called the Description Game. A particular item will be described and you have to guess what it is. Trust me, its harder than it sounds. Another game is LIAR! Each player takes turn and writes 3 statement about them. 1/3 statements is a lie. Your job is to call them out on it! Great place to learn about the people of SFC!
We have many other games in store, so come temporarily join Rigellian Compact in the original universe from April 14-21 and join in on the fun! If you don't have fun, you can leave at any time with no hard feelings! Time to spice the game up a bit! Hope to see you all there! If you have any questions, contact Unownreality through either forum PM or e-mail.

Starfleet commander: sad home page
Something we all say nearly everyday is a reminder of what used to be. No i'm not discussing whether or not the game is dying, but instead, the login page of the original sight. "A free game Universe with over 893k players". This however is not anywhere near the case of today's player total.
This 893k number is not the total of all universes, as each universe has a different inaccurate number. This number represents the total number of accounts over the lifespan of the game. To this date, there are currently 7,488 accounts in the original universe. If a new player were to join, this would be a bit misleading. Not just that, but for veterans like myself, it reminds us of when the universe had nearly 80,000 players in over 100 galaxies.
So the home page will most likely never change, but it will hold the memories of a better time, where systems were full of fun players.

Alliance showcase: the Dark Sphere
The Dark Sphere has made itself well known on our forums recently with their great attempt at declaring Galactic war. So who and exactly what is this ballsy alliance?
The Dark Sphere alliance was formed when two previous alliances, Dark Omega and Sorgalia went to war with each other with the intentions to weed out the weakest players, and merging only the strongest of players. The Alliance became a voice democratic system, where members would vote on everything. The first two alliance leaders were Kaork and Sean MacKay. Following Sean's leave, Jared1701 assumed the second seat of leadership. Jared would take over in the event Kaork needed a break or had to step away.
Dark Sphere's first war was with Minute men. Time refused the request for war, but some people did move to minutemen temporarily to fight the war. It was neck and neck to the end, but Dark Sphere would slip by with the win. The second war was with Benson Dragons 4000 and another win for Dark Sphere. The third was was with #1 alliance Time Wasters. Time Wasters and Dark Sphere fought hard, with a possible cheap tactics by Time. Nonetheless Time would surpass Dark Sphere and win the war. Finally we come to the couple wars with Pilgrims, an alliance that Jared1701 respects very much. As most of us know, Dark Sphere would win the first war, and Pilgrims would win the next. They are currently in a 3rd war with Pilgrims.
What made Dark Sphere well known to anyone who reads the message boards was its challenge of every alliance to go to war. Jared wishes many more alliances would have accepted. That being said, the alliances that have accepted the war requests, are having alot of fun in their friendly wars.
Current leader Jared, wishes for the Dark Sphere to eventually become the #1 alliance in the original universe. "The Dark sphere is a grouping of friends and family, we've been through thick and thin and have been there for each other during Game events and good and horrific events in real life; we will go to back for each other and be the best players we can with the core values of sportsmanship, aggressiveness and family." Says Dark Sphere's leader Jared. Good luck Dark Sphere! -unownreality (image created by Jared1701)

ever wonder how many people read sfc news daily?
Ever wonder How many people visit the site each day? Hundreds! On average, 126 individual people visit every day. SFC news' daily record was on March 4, the first full day of Starfleet Commander News. That day, 277 unique people viewed the web page! As the creator of the site, this is much more than I had expected and I thank all my readers for their help and interest in this page! I hope to continue bringing awesome stories to all the players in every universe! Thanks for your support! :) -Unownreality
where are the new ships?
The Thanatos destroyer, space mines, the Empusa, all popular and useful ships in the NOVA universe. But many players ask, "Why not bring these ships to other older universes?" Well blue frog gave SFC news the answer, and the answer may shock you.
Think about how awesome it would be to have a fleet of Thanatos in the original universe. You could take out those heavily guarded NPCs a lot easier and with fewer losses. However, Blue Frogs own Matt H. states that at this time, there are no plans to bring in any of the new ships to old universes. "We've heard from many players in older universes that they play that Universe because of the options that were made available to them when they started playing... We understand that some player would like us to back-port them, but we don't think that would be appropriate." In other words, many of us want the universe back to the way it used to be. No NPCs, no moons, and no planet moves. Original universe is the classic Starfleet game where the new changes are not brought into to keep the classic Starfleet Commander game we love. It seems that the number of change resilient players equals or dominates the players who want the game to the people wanting a fresh wave of new ships. Matt goes on to tell SFC news, "We're always interested in new ways we can expand the existing Universes without destroying the original feel of each Universe, but we're very cautious about which changes we try." If we look back, it was only after a several months of protesting that the universes gained the Carmanor and Zagreus.
To all the people saying in their mind, "See? Blue frog doesn't give to sh*** about our ideas to improve the game." Sorry, but that is untrue. Blue Frog has listened to players complain and suggest to revert the universes to the pre-moon period. Pre moon period meaning no new changes because according to players, that is where Blue frog kills the game. This is not referring to every player, but we all know the players who do nothing but complain in game, and on the forums. Matt states it best when he says, "Every change we make to the game has the potential to upset just as many players as it may make happy". You will never win with every player, or there would be over 7500 different Starfleet Commanders catered to every one of us.

The Grey wolves alliance is one of the largest alliances in the Original universe composing of 441 members. Grey Wolves however is known especially for their foreign policy. Their policy is to make friends and keep human morals the high point of their alliance; As leader Rez Caladon states, "people before points".
When current leader Rez Caladon started playing a game, he wanted to create an alliance different from all the rest. So the Grey wolves were created! He wanted the grey wolves to invite the newer members into the game and provide a place where spirits are high and friendship was first. This type of alliance are very rare in the original universe. The first recruit of Grey Wolves was a girl by the name of Tavinator, Rez's real life sister. Tavinator become a prominent figure for the grey wolves alliance until her retirement from the game. She provided a "Crazier" but fun view point for members into the alliance. She would also go on to create an alliance in universe 2 were she brought some of her wacky fun ideas into practice.
In May of 2010, The grey wolves had their first recruitment drive bringing in over 100 members in a short period of time. Rez recently had a recruitment drive where he hoped to have 400 members. This number was easily surpassed when grey wolves became an alliance with over 500 members.
Grey wolves participates in the Ambassador Exchange Program where a member of Grey Wolves would go to NAP alliances to learn from them. Another way the Grey Wolves communicated with friends and alliance mates are the parties they host. Every year on the first full moon of January, Grey Wolves host an open party where almost everyone is welcome to temporarily come into the alliance and have a good time with friends and games. One game is a war game, however, this is not your regular war game. Rez calls it, "Weird War". Instead of attacking people with armadas of ships, members are encouraged to transport resources to random players.
To all the alliances who talk trash because the grey wolves don't go to wars or fight active players, Rez has something to say to you, "
I believe most people like us, & as for the others, I don't particularly care what they think of us." Live on Grey wolves! You are a great alliance that helps to create a fun environment for veterans and new players alike!
